Last night likely Senate pick Kirsten Gillibrand spoke to Empire State Pride Agenda Executive Director Alan Van Capelle about issues important to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.As I noted this morning, the likely nomination of Gillibrand created a firestorm yesterday and this morning among 5th column netroots activists and extreme-left members of Congress. Now with her appointment, and the expected primary challenge in 2010, we'll see Gillibrand further kowtow to the extremist agenda of today's hardline Democratic Party base.
“After talking to Kirsten Gillibrand, I am very happy to say that New York is poised to have its first U.S. Senator who supports marriage equality for same-sex couples,” said Van Capelle. “She also supports the full repeal of the federal DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) law, repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT) and passage of legislation outlawing discrimination against transgender people.
As I've said many time, the No on H8 ayatollahs and International ANSWER cadres have hijacked the Democratic Party's platform, pulling the party ever closer to the statist secular progressivism that is the de facto ideology in power today.

I'm glad to she she got it right instead of the Bush way of never admitting a mistake. Good for her and the gay couples that I hope will soon enjoy one of the same rights we heteros enjoy.

Whatever she turns out to be--likely somewhere between the two--she'll face the voters relatively soon. If she's not too far left or right, the NY voters will reelect her. If not, she'll be just another NY political has-been.
Can't say as I was fond of seeing old Al DeMato at her side in a few of the pix... That didn't bode well for her chances of earning my vote... But what will be, will be. I'll give her a chance...
Truth: Gays do enjoy the same rights: they can marry someone of the opposite sex, just like heterosexuals can!

Funny. Something happened to Jerry Brown when the gay groups talked with him. Hope there isn't a trend.
I agree, Tim: the ayatollahs and their ilk are firmly on the side of the pro-Prop 8 crowd. I would be surprised if Don could think of one thing he would deny gay people the right to do that the ayatollahs wouldn't agree with him on. Weak sauce, indeed.
I also find his charges that the Democratic party (not my party but Don uses the phrase interchangeably with the left and liberals, so I find myself defending them at times) has been hijacked by nihilist queers and extremist communists when we've seen what the Republican party has devolved into.
I was watching a political pundit show the other day and the host asked a Republican governor or congressman what his party had to do to become a viable national party again, and the guy answered without hesitation, "We need to get someone besides white Southern guys to vote for us." True, true.
I've also heard that many of the intellectuals (and I use that term loosely when referring to the right) of that party are counselling that they need to increase their anti-gay rhetoric to be successful in the future. Awesome.
So by all means, please: alienate all of the country's gays and minorities and hell, we'll even take the youth vote from you as well. Keep running on hate and fear and see where that gets you.
As stupid as Gavin Newsome was about delivering his message in this last election he was right: gay marriage is coming and will someday be legal in this country, it's only a matter of time. I predict that we just need to wait for the rest of the Boomers to die off before this happens. Wait and watch.
To bad, at first I was impressed by her appointment. Should have know better, she's already looking forward to 2010.
